Michael Stewart
Originally from the Midwest, Michael Stewart has been creating art in New York City and the surrounding area for over twenty years. He has had numerous group and solo shows of his work in Manhattan as well as in galleries throughout the Northeast. His work is currently on exhibit at Red Run Gallery in Pocono Pines, PA.

Michael received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wittenberg University, where he studied graphic design and fine arts. He also studied oil painting with David Leffel at the Art Student’s League in New York City, sculpture with Martine Vaugel at the National Academy in New York City and in the Loire Valley, France, and painting and collage with Stewart Diamond in New York City and at Bennington College in Bennington Vermont.

In 2004, Stewart created a politically themed show called States of Heads: Unauthorized Portraits that traveled to galleries throughout the Northeast. In large, close-up, oil portraits, Stewart selectively depicted the current world-wide male power structure, revealing the true emotional and spiritual condition of his subjects in their brief moments of unmasked expresssion.

In addition to his figurative work, Stewart delves into abstraction in many different media, including ink, watercolor, gouache, pastel and acrylic. He is also a print-maker working in lithograph, and monotype, a ceramic sculptor and a fine art photographer.

Stewart is also self employed as a graphic designer specializing in both print and web design. His graphic design website is: www.michaelstewartdesign.com.
